About us
Who We Are
The Bangladesh Society of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine (BSITD) is a pioneering, non-profit, and non-political organization in Bangladesh dedicated to advancing the science, education, and practice of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (ID). Under the leadership of esteemed clinicians, subject-matter experts, promising health leaders, public health specialists, and young graduates, BSITD collaborates with multiple partners and stakeholders across the country to address the pressing challenges posed by tropical and infectious diseases. It serves as a comprehensive platform for fostering collaboration, driving impactful research, and promoting public health initiatives to enhance the quality of life in Bangladesh and beyond.
Infectious diseases remain a significant public health challenge, particularly in developing countries like Bangladesh. The nation has witnessed recurrent outbreaks of Dengue fever, resulting in substantial morbidity, mortality, and an overwhelming burden on healthcare systems. Additionally, the country has experienced outbreaks of chikungunya and faces the looming threat of emerging infections such as yellow fever and Zika virus. Factors such as rapid urbanization, high population density, insufficient healthcare infrastructure, and climate change have exacerbated the risk of such outbreaks. However, the current level of preparedness and societal awareness to address these challenges remains inadequate.
Recognizing these critical gaps, BSITD was established to bridge the knowledge, treatment, and prevention strategies. The organization is committed to supporting governmental and societal efforts to strengthen health systems, improve healthcare services, and enhance the well-being of people across Bangladesh. With a broader vision, BSITD aspires to contribute globally to the fight against infectious diseases, upholding the ideals of humanity and scientific innovation.
